The rules that govern your use of the Small Scotland platform.
These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the Small Scotland platform at smallscotland.co.uk ("the Platform"). By using the Platform you agree to these Terms. Please read them carefully.
Small Scotland is a business discovery and marketplace platform connecting Scotland small businesses with customers. We provide tools for businesses to list their services, sell products, manage bookings and promote events.
You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or make purchases. By creating an account you confirm that the information you provide is accurate and that you will keep it up to date.
You agree not to:
Businesses listed on Small Scotland must be genuine, operating businesses based in or primarily serving Scotland. We reserve the right to reject or remove any listing that does not meet our standards or that we believe is fraudulent, misleading or inappropriate.
Business owners are responsible for ensuring their listing content — including product descriptions, prices, photos and business information — is accurate and up to date. Small Scotland is not liable for inaccuracies in business listings.
Business subscriptions — paid monthly in advance. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled. You may cancel at any time and your listing will remain active until the end of the current billing period. No refunds are issued for unused portions of a subscription period.
Product purchases — when you buy a product through Small Scotland, your payment is processed by Stripe. Small Scotland takes a 5% platform fee from each transaction; the remaining 95% goes directly to the business. The contract of sale is between you and the selling business — Small Scotland is not a party to that contract.
Pricing — all prices shown are in British Pounds Sterling (£) and include VAT where applicable.
For product purchases, your statutory rights under UK consumer law apply. You have the right to cancel an order within 14 days of receiving physical goods (distance selling regulations). To initiate a return or refund, contact the selling business directly. If you cannot resolve a dispute with a business, contact us at info@smallscotland.co.uk and we will try to assist.
For subscription fees, refunds are at our discretion. We do not typically refund subscription fees for periods already paid.
The booking system connects customers with businesses to arrange appointments. Small Scotland is not party to the booking agreement — it is between you and the business. Small Scotland is not liable if a business cancels, reschedules or fails to fulfil a booking. Any disputes regarding bookings should be resolved directly with the business.
All content on the Small Scotland Platform — including design, code, copy and branding — is owned by Small Scotland and may not be reproduced without permission. Business owners retain ownership of content they upload (photos, descriptions, logos) and grant Small Scotland a licence to display that content on the Platform.
Small Scotland provides the Platform on an "as is" basis. We do not guarantee the Platform will be error-free or uninterrupted. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Small Scotland is not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential losses arising from your use of the Platform.
Our total liability to you in any circumstances will not exceed the amount you have paid to us in the 12 months preceding the claim.
The Platform uses third-party services including Stripe (payments), Supabase (database), Resend (email) and Cloudflare (hosting). Use of these services is subject to their respective terms and privacy policies. Small Scotland is not responsible for the actions or omissions of third-party services.
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, unless you are a consumer in Scotland in which case you may also bring proceedings in Scotland.
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify registered business accounts of significant changes by email. Continued use of the Platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
